An Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) maintenance worker was one of three people injured in a work zone crash on SR-5 northwest of Jasper as National Work Zone Awareness Week began today.
The incident occurred Monday morning when ALDOT crews were performing shoulder work. The ALDOT worker was seated inside a dump truck when a vehicle traveled through the work zone and struck the truck.
The ALDOT worker and two occupants from the passenger vehicle were transported to a hospital for treatment.
“We are praying for those involved and wish them a full recovery,” said Wallace McAdory III, West Central Region Engineer. “This incident highlights the importance of staying alert and slowing down in work zones. We want everyone to make it home safely.”
National Work Zone Awareness Week is an annual campaign that highlights the importance of driving safely through work zones to protect both workers and motorists. Crashes like this underscore the real risks faced by roadway workers every day.
ALDOT will continue to monitor the condition of those involved and urges the public to prioritize safety.
