The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), in partnership with the City of Spanish Fort, has completed roadway improvements on SR-225 from Oakridge Drive to General Canby Boulevard.
The project widened the roadway and added a center turn lane. It also included drainage and grading improvements designed to improve safety and traffic flow for motorists traveling through the area.
This project was funded through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP). ATRIP is a statewide program that allows ALDOT and local governments to work together to fund transportation projects. These projects support safer roads, reduce congestion, and strengthen local infrastructure.
Construction focused largely on the northbound side of SR-225, beginning near Oakridge Drive and progressing north toward General Canby Blvd. Work was scheduled with consideration for rush hour and school traffic, helping reduce disruptions for daily commuters and nearby neighborhoods.

ALDOT officials say the completed improvements are already helping traffic move more safely and efficiently along this busy corridor.
“This project is a great example of what can be accomplished through strong collaboration between ALDOT and local partners,” said Southwest Region Engineer Matt Ericksen. “We appreciate the City of Spanish Fort for its support and coordination throughout the process, and we thank residents and motorists for their patience while the work was underway. The improvements will benefit the community for years to come.”
