The Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) work to replace the SR-79 bridge over the Blackburn Fork of the Little Warrior River is nearing completion.
The $9.2 million job upgrading the crossing on the northern tip of Locust Fork kicked off in the summer of 2024.
The project stretched nearly one mile and included building new approaches in addition to the bridge itself.
The contractor worked hard not to adversely affect the nearby waterway and its wildlife.

The daily volume of 5,038 vehicles on SR-79 began using the new crossing in April 2025.
The contractor is completing a few punch list items over the next few weeks, including grading and other finishing touches.
ALDOT wants to thank community stakeholders for their ongoing patience during this work to upgrade this crucial Blount County corridor.
