Weather permitting, Norfolk Southern will repair the railroad crossing on SR-67/Beltline Road between SR-24 and SR-20 in Decatur next week.
Norfolk Southern anticipates the repair taking about four days.
Closures and diversions
Beginning about 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, a traffic control contractor will close all three lanes of the southbound roadway. They will divert southbound traffic to the northbound roadway, which will be reduced to one lane for each direction of travel.
Norfolk Southern will remove asphalt and the existing section of track on the southbound lanes. They will replace it with a new section of track that is ready for installation.
The closure and traffic diversion will remain in place overnight and throughout the day Tuesday, Sept. 22, until paving on SR-67 southbound is complete.
After completion of the repairs on the southbound roadway — expected by early Wednesday, Sept. 23 — the closure and diversion will switch for a repeat of the process on the northbound roadway.
All three lanes of the northbound roadway will close, with traffic in both directions sharing the southbound roadway, reduced to one lane for northbound and two lanes for southbound.
Expect the closure and diversion to remain in place overnight and throughout the day Thursday, Sept. 24. Traffic flow should be restored to normal by Friday, Sept. 25.
Expect delays
ALDOT advises drivers to expect delays on SR-67 as well as possible impacts to traffic on SR-20 and SR-24, particularly during peak traffic. Plan additional travel time or use alternate routes.

Upcoming resurfacing
Later this fall, a contractor will resurface the remainder of SR-67 between SR-20 and SR-24 in a $1 million project for ALDOT.
