The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) plans to resurface a portion of SR-14 in Hale County from near Holbrook Place to the SR-61 intersection in Greensboro.
The 4.7-mile project is expected to begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, and will continue until the end of the year, weather permitting.
The project also includes a road diet on SR-14 from Main Street to Tuscaloosa Street. The roadway will be reconfigured from four travel lanes to two travel lanes with a two-way center left turn lane. Road diets are a cost-effective safety strategy for traditional four-lane undivided highways and can reduce crashes by up to 47%, according to the Federal Highway Administration.
Lane closures will not be allowed between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on weekdays when school is in session to reduce the impact on traffic. Drivers should expect possible delays and are encouraged to use caution in the work zone.
APAC-Alabama was awarded the project at $2.4 million.
