Oct 19, 2026

Update for citizens in Conecuh, Escambia, Monroe and Wilcox counties: The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) contractors began debris cleanup operations today along impacted interstate, state and U.S. routes in the heaviest impacted areas of the ALDOT Southwest Region as a result of Hurricane Isaias.

ALDOT is sharing the below graphic and information to assist residents, homeowners, and businesses. Those affected should follow these guidelines to help crews collect debris efficiently.

Where to Place Debris

  • Place debris curbside without blocking the roadway or storm drains.
  • If your property has a sidewalk, place debris on the curbside of the sidewalk.
  • However, debris collection crews will not collect debris placed between the sidewalk and the home or building.
  • If there is no sidewalk, ditch or utility line in front of your property, place debris at the edge of your property before the curb.
  • Do not stack or lean debris against trees, utility poles, fire hydrants, meters or other structures. This can make removal difficult.

What Debris Will Be Collected?

Vegetative debris

  • Leaves (do not place in bags)
  • Logs
  • Plants
  • Tree branches

Construction and demolition debris

  • Fencing
  • Siding
  • Concrete blocks
  • Lumber
  • Exterior building components

What Will Not Be Collected

  • Household trash or garbage.
  • Debris placed outside the designated collection area.

ALDOT contractors will collect debris along state-maintained roads. Local cities and counties will coordinate collection along roadways they own and maintain.

Contractors may photograph debris to document that it qualifies for federal reimbursement.

Residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines to help crews safely and efficiently remove storm debris.
