The Alabama Department of Transportation’s annual State ROADeo took place Wednesday, May 13, in Montgomery, bringing together the Department’s top heavy equipment operators from across the state.
Competitors earned their place at the state event after winning their respective area ROADeo competitions. Once in Montgomery, operators faced a series of precision-based challenges designed to test their control, accuracy and safe operation of heavy equipment.
Participants competed in seven categories:
- Tractor Truck with Lowboy Trailer
- Tandem Axle Dump Truck
- Backhoe
- Single Axle Dump Truck
- Tractor with Mower
- Motor Grader
- Skid Steer
The competition highlights the expertise required to safely operate the equipment used daily to maintain and improve Alabama’s transportation system. It also encourages professional development, strengthens safety practices and builds camaraderie among ALDOT employees statewide.
Winners from each category will represent ALDOT at the Southeastern Regional Equipment ROADeo in Virginia this October.
