Miller & Miller today installed bridge girders for the replacement of the northbound half of the US-43/US-72/Mitchell Boulevard bridge over SR-20 in Florence.
The six 137-foot girders — long, horizontal beams that will support the future bridge deck — each weigh 52.3 tons.
With southbound traffic temporarily stopped, a pair of cranes lifted the girders from trucks on the southbound bridge and moved them into position on the northbound bridge.
The $7.2 million project to replace the 88-year-old bridge began in March. ALDOT anticipates completion in early 2028.
