Railroad work requires the closure of three busy highways in St Clair and Shelby Counties.

CSX railroad work requires the closure of three highways over the next ten days in St Clair and Shelby Counties.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is announcing closures in Springville, Helena, and Alabaster for CSX maintenance projects.

SR-174 Closure in Springville

Starting at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, SR-174 will be closed between US-11 and I-59.

The highway will remain closed until 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3.

The recommended detour is US-11 to the Argo Exit 148 to I-59 north back to SR-174 in both directions.

SR-261 Closure in Helena

On July 6, SR-261 in Helena will be shut down between Bearden Road and County Road 52 (Helena Road) at 7:00 a.m.

It is not scheduled to reopen until 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9.

Drivers are encouraged to detour on Bearden Road and Lee Street to County Road 52 back to SR-261 in both directions.

SR-119 Closure in Alabaster

Finally, CSX requires SR-119 in Alabaster to be closed between US-31 and Fulton Springs Road.

The closure should last from 7:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10 to 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13.  

Drivers are encouraged to detour on Fulton Springs Road to Old US-31 to US-31 in both directions.
