An Alabama Department of Transportation access management project along U.S. Highway 231 in Wetumpka will begin on Thursday, February 22, weather permitting.
The access management project will begin at the intersection of Old Montgomery Highway and end at the intersection of Charles Avenue.
The project will limit some turning movements along the corridor and install a U-Turn bulb north and southbound towards the middle of the corridor.
Access management increases safety and efficiency of a corridor by reducing conflict points.
Lane closures will be possible through the length of the project. Daytime lane closures are permitted Monday through Friday in the southbound lanes from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and in the northbound lanes from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Motorists are advised to plan accordingly for possible delays and to be mindful of equipment and people working in the work zone.
ALDOT awarded the approximate $1.6 million project to Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc., of Dothan, which had the lowest bid that met project requirements. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2024.
