An Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) project to rehabilitate the bridge deck over the Choctawhatchee River on US-231 in Newton begins Monday, July 27, weather permitting.

The contractor will utilize hydroblasting, a method known for its efficiency, safety, and precision, to restore the bridge’s roadway.

The bridge will remain open during the rehabilitation, and traffic will temporarily shift to one side at a time. Lane closures are likely throughout the project, and travelers should plan accordingly for possible delays.

ALDOT urges motorists to obey the posted speed limit and stay mindful of equipment and people in the work zone.

The approximately $1.7 million project was awarded to F&W Construction Company, Inc., out of Ozark, Ala., who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements.
