Fresh Coat Ahead: I-65 Rest Areas in Conecuh County to close briefly for painting

Jul 27, 2026

If you’re traveling I-65 through Conecuh County over the next two weeks, you may notice a little maintenance underway at the interstate rest areas.

ALDOT crews will be giving the pavilion structures at both the northbound and southbound I-65 rest areas a fresh coat of paint. To help protect your vehicle from any paint overspray, each rest area will temporarily close while crews complete the work.

Closure Schedule

Northbound I-65 Rest Area

  • Tuesday, July 28
  • Wednesday, July 29
  • Thursday, July 30
  • Hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day

Southbound I-65 Rest Area

  • Monday, Aug. 3
  • Tuesday, Aug. 4
  • Wednesday, Aug. 5
  • Hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day

The rest areas will reopen at the end of each workday.

These temporary closures allow crews to safely complete the project while preventing paint overspray from reaching parked vehicles. We appreciate your patience as we make these popular roadside stops a little brighter and more welcoming for everyone.

ALDOT encourages motorists to plan ahead and use the next available rest area or nearby services while these facilities are temporarily closed.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep Alabama’s rest areas clean, safe and inviting for travelers.
