Project details
ALDOT proposes widening US-278 from Fourth Avenue East in Cullman to the diversion of US-278 and SR-69. The widening will expand the highway to five lanes — two through lanes in each direction and a center turn lane.
The project also includes replacement of the bridge over Eightmile Creek with a wider bridge to carry the additional lanes and improve safety.

This part of US-278 carries more than 15,000 vehicles daily.
The proposed project will increase capacity to handle existing and projected traffic demand and alleviate conflicting left turn movements generated by side streets and commercial driveways.
