The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is carrying out resurfacing and access management upgrades on US-280 in Alexander City.
The project stretches from the intersection of SR-63 to the Dadeville Road junction.
In addition to resurfacing three miles of roadway, this construction also includes guardrail installation, access management, traffic striping and more.
Progress is already happening on this project including a new side road, Old Dadeville Road connection, and median construction work in the area west of Coven Abbett.
The median work will adjust turn lanes, place an R-Cut (Restricted Crossing U-Turn) and create a modified T intersection with a dedicated interior acceleration lane for left turning side street traffic.
There will also be daily lane closures of one lane in each direction until median work is complete. Some of that work includes major drainage upgrades, widening and barrier wall installation.
Approximately 17,000 people travel this area daily. Once complete by Summer 2027, the upgrades should increase safety by reducing decisions motorists have to make which can lead to crashes.
