Three projects will resurface parts of US-31 and SR-67 in Decatur. The projects include milling and paving US-31 near the Tennessee River and SR-67 on Point Mallard Parkway and the north end of Beltline Road.
US-31 near the Tennessee River
The contractor, Rogers Group, will resurface four miles of US-31 from south of the Tennessee River to Thomas Hammons Road, just north of the city limit in Limestone County.
The $2.9 million project also includes guardrail improvements, bridge rail retrofits and striping on the William J. Hudson “Steamboat Bill” bridges.
The contractor will patch the road prior to milling and resurfacing. Rogers Group anticipates starting work the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 15, if weather permits.
Night work
To reduce traffic impacts, contractors on all three projects will conduct most operations requiring lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, Sunday nights through Thursday nights.
There is a notable exception on the US-31 project. Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, weather permitting, Rogers Group will implement an around-the-clock southbound lane closure for full-depth patching on the US-31 causeway over the weekend. ALDOT expects the lane to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21.

SR-67/Point Mallard Parkway
A $1.3 million project with contractor Grayson Carter and Son will resurface 3.4 miles of SR-67 from Indian Hills Road to US-31.
Also, the project will add centerline scoring to improve safety in undivided four-lane sections of the highway.
ALDOT currently anticipates work beginning in late September, if weather and the contractor’s schedule permit.
SR-67/Beltline Road
Rogers Group will resurface 1.4 miles of SR-67 from the SR-24 interchange to SR-20 in a $1 million project.
This project remains on hold for Norfolk Southern to complete planned repairs to a rail crossing.
Previous projects in Decatur
ALDOT projects repaved segments of several main thoroughfares in Decatur in recent years.
GCAS Contracting resurfaced five miles of SR-67 from US-31 to SR-24 and SR-24 from SR-67 to the Lawrence County line last year.
They also resurfaced SR-20 from 12th Avenue Northwest to the CSX railroad in 2024.
