The Alabama Department of Transportation will be performing widening, pedestrian improvements, resurfacing, guardrail and end anchor installation, and traffic striping on SR-204 just east of the Gadsden Road intersection to milepost 9.620 (SR-21 intersection).
This project will require lane closures on SR-204 during drainage work, widening, resurfacing, and traffic signal work.

The work will begin on Monday, November 2. There will be some traffic interruption during the initial phase of drainage work.
There will be multiple phases of construction and periodic traffic interruptions throughout the project.

These necessary modifications follow last year’s improvements to an important section of nearby SR-21.
Those included new sidewalks, grassed pedestrian barrier islands, resurfacing, striping ADA curb ramps, and detectable warning surfaces.
The project should be complete by October 31, 2027, weather permitting.
