ALDOT does not record or store footage from its traffic cameras. These cameras are designed to assist ALDOT with managing traffic in real time, including the detection of roadway issues such as crashes and traffic congestion. This information allows ALDOT to more quickly coordinate with local law enforcement and other first responders for assistance with clearing highway incidents.
If your project is associated with a state-maintained route and involves a driveway, median crossover, utility work, change to drainage, landscaping, roadside/outdoor advertising, or installation of public safety sensors, you need a permit. You might also require a permit for different circumstances, and ALDOT can help you assess the requirements.

ALDOT uses a federally-prescribed program of developing plans to manage projects. Multiple projects are carried out at once to keep road improvements moving forward across Alabama. To accomplish this, ALDOT partners with many private contractors, each with its own crews. Focusing on just one project at a time would slow progress.
