The Alabama Department of Transportation plans to replace and widen the US-11 (Skyland Boulevard East) bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad near Clearview Hills Drive in Cottondale.
The new bridge will have one lane in each direction and a center-left turn lane. A sidewalk will also be installed on the east side of the bridge.
The project is expected to begin Monday, January 15 and will continue until Fall 2024, weather permitting. The new bridge will be built adjacent to the current bridge, meaning no lane closures will occur except for a two-month span from June through July. During those two months, a full road closure will occur and traffic must use alternate routes.
Newell & Bush was awarded the project at $6.19 million.
Motorists are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits.
