Resurfacing work on SR-251 between Athens and Ardmore in Limestone County will start Monday, weather permitting.
The contractor, Asphalt Paving Systems, will resurface the entire highway — more than 16 miles — in two projects. The first project runs from US-31 in Athens to East Limestone Road, and the second will proceed from East Limestone Road to SR-53 in Ardmore. The total cost of the projects is about $2.5 million.
Milling operations on the segment near US-31 will take place during the first week. Work will start after 8 a.m. to reduce impacts to school traffic.
Motorists should expect single-lane closures with traffic directed by flaggers or pilot car. Please be aware that delays may be lengthy at times during resurfacing. ALDOT advises drivers to plan additional travel time or use alternate routes.

ALDOT anticipates completion of both projects this fall.
