The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is making steady progress on the Linden Bypass, the first project of several for the West Alabama Highway initiative announced by Governor Ivey in 2021. The goal of the project is to not only improve safety but provide much needed economic opportunities and connectivity to this rural portion of Alabama. This active project will help reduce congestion through downtown Linden and provide a safer route for heavy vehicles traveling through the region.
Scope of the Project
The Linden Bypass is divided into two sections: the South Project, which runs from US-43 south of Linden to SR-28, and the North Project, from SR-28 to SR-69. Combined, the projects span approximately 7.7 miles and will form a four-lane divided highway, designated as SR-303. This road will eventually be part of the New West Alabama Highway.

- Nearly all land clearing is complete, with grading and bridge work on the AGR and MNBR railway overpasses ongoing. Paving has begun between US-43 and the AGR bridge.
- North Project:
- Clearing from SR-28 to Marengo County 44 has been completed, and grading work is underway. Bridge work on Chickasaw Bogue Creek and Whirl Creek continues, and paving has started on the southbound roadway near SR-28.
ALDOT estimates project completion in late fall 2025, although some sections may open earlier to help manage traffic.
Traffic Management During Construction
Drivers should expect minimal disruptions during most phases of construction. However, there may be temporary detours or lane shifts on US-43 and SR-28 during key activities like bridge work and paving.
