The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced the substantial completion of the US-82 widening project in Prattville. This infrastructure improvement enhances a key thoroughfare for local and regional traffic. This project, funded by the Rebuild Alabama Act, underscores the state’s commitment to critical transportation improvements.
A ribbon-cutting was held today at First Pentecostal Church in Prattville, along the newly widened US-82. Governor Kay Ivey headlined the event, joined by Senator Clyde Chambliss, Representatives Jerry Starnes, Kelvin Lawrence, Van Smith, and other officials.
“This project will drive economic growth, support local businesses and enhance the quality of life for those who call this area home,” Gov. Ivey said. “Infrastructure is the foundation of economic development—without it, progress is not possible. Every dollar invested yields long-term benefits, strengthening communities and creating new opportunities. Thanks to the Rebuild Alabama Act, this is just one of many transformative projects improving mobility and fostering prosperity. These efforts are enhancing how Alabamians work, travel and live across our state.”
The project expanded US-82 to four lanes between US-31 and SR-14, closing a long-standing gap in a busy corridor. The project cost approximately $38 million, funded by state gas tax proceeds from the Rebuild Alabama Act.
“Making US-82 four lanes was one of my top priorities when I ran for the Senate in 2014, and I am proud to see it completed,” Senator Clyde Chambliss said. “This project is a major investment in our region, enhancing safety, improving traffic flow and supporting economic growth. I appreciate Governor Ivey and the Alabama Legislature for their leadership in making this critical infrastructure improvement a reality.”
