UPDATE: The eastbound bridge is the only one that will have a detour. US-84 westbound will remain open.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announces a temporary closure of the bridge over Choctowhatchee River on US-84 in Daleville beginning Monday, October 6.
The closure is expected to last two weeks and then reopen with intermittent lane closures.
The closure allows the contractor to perform necessary maintenance on the bridge deck. The bridge rehabilitation will utilize hydroblasting, a method known for its efficiency, safety, and precision.
During the closure, travelers will have a signed detour utilizing SR-85 and SR-92.
ALDOT urges drivers to drive the posted speed limit and be mindful of people and equipment in the work zone.
Temporary message boards have been installed to inform the traveling public of the upcoming work.
The approximately $900,000 project was awarded to Comanche Construction of Georgia, LLC, out of Marietta, Ga. who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements.
ALDOT took comments from the public regarding this project in July 2024.
