Nighttime Lane Closures Begin on US-90 in Daphne

Oct 03

Drivers in Daphne should prepare for lane closures as construction begins on a major road project along US-90 (SR-16).

Starting Sunday, Oct. 5, crews will begin widening, resurfacing and adding a new center left-turn lane on US-90 from Mt. Aid Baptist Church to SR-181.

The project, sponsored by the City of Daphne, is designed to improve traffic flow and safety with additional lanes, better access management and upgraded signals.

What to Expect:

  • Work schedule: Sunday through Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Lane closures: Eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. The inside eastbound lane will shift into the center turn lane, while the outside eastbound lane remains closed for drainage and widening work.
  • Westbound traffic: The westbound lane and turn lane will remain open.

The $2.9 million project is funded through $900,000 from the City of Daphne and $2 million from ATRIP funds. Contractor P.L. Russell will perform the work.

Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution in the area and watch for workers and equipment. Motorists should also allow extra time when traveling at night.
