The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will join more than 100 businesses and organizations at the ninth annual West Alabama Worlds of Work (WOW) career expo Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 8-9 at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa.

The two-day event connects students with hands-on demonstrations and real-world insight into job opportunities across the region.

More than 4,000 ninth-grade students from Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties are expected to attend.

ALDOT’s booth will introduce students to a variety of transportation careers, including maintenance, construction and surveying. The department will also showcase its Alabama Service and Assistance Patrol (ASAP) truck.

ALDOT employees will share how their work helps keep roads safe and traffic moving, while displaying technology and tools used in the field.

“Events like WOW are an important way to show students that there are opportunities available close to home,” said Wallace McAdory III, ALDOT West Central Region Engineer. “We want young people to see that ALDOT is an excellent career choice and offers a wide range of jobs that make a real difference.”

ALDOT encourages students and visitors to stop by its booth to explore job opportunities in transportation and learn how the department works.
