An Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) resurfacing project on I-85 in Macon County begins soon.
The contractor will begin installing signs in preparation for the project on Monday, Dec. 1, weather permitting.
This project includes resurfacing, guardrail installation, and traffic striping on I-85 from a mile south of exit 22 in Shorter to the CR-36 overpass east of Franklin.
Due to weather and seasonal limitations, the contractor will begin with guardrail installation. Milling and paving operations will begin Spring 2026.
Crews will limit lane closures to Sundays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Lane closures will not be permitted during Auburn home football games.
ALDOT urges drivers to obey the posted speed limit, plan accordingly for delays and be mindful of people and equipment in the work zone.
ALDOT awarded the approximately $19.3 million project to APAC-Alabama, Inc., out of Birmingham, Ala. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
