SR-161 Project nears completion with North Roundabout Opening

North Roundabout at north and southbound SR 161 in Baldwin County

The SR-161 North Roundabout, located south of Gateway Boulevard (CR-8) in Gulf Shores is now open to traffic.                      

The roundabout is the final major piece of the SR-161 improvements that include the new SR-161 South Bridge (Waterway Bridge) and the SR-161 North Bridge (near The Wharf).

Blount County triple roundabout project receives regional transportation safety award

The triple roundabout project in Blount County has won regional honors for best small project in the safety category of the 2026 America’s Transportation Awards competition.

This week the Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) recognized the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) with its first America’s Transportation Award.
