An Alabama Department of Transportation project to replace the bridge over Blue Gurth Swamp on SR-14 in Dallas County will begin with sign and traffic control installation on Monday, February 12, weather permitting.
Due to the location of the bridge, the new bridge will be built in the same location of the current structure. A detour will be in place, beginning Wednesday, February 14, while the current structure is removed, and the new one is built.
The official signed detour will have travelers utilizing SR-41 and SR-140.
The approximately $3.4 million project was awarded to Murphee Bridge Corporation out of Troy, Ala., who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements. The project is expected to be completed Spring 2025.
