A contractor for the Alabama Department of Transportation will begin installing signs on Monday, April 29, for the closure, beginning May 1, of the I-65 South rest area in Greenville.
It was announced earlier this month that the rest area was being replaced by a larger and updated structure. The next rest area is in Evergreen, 44 miles away from the Greenville rest area.
The signs are being posted to alert travelers to the closure.
The current structure will be demolished, and an updated rest area will be built in the same location. The new structure will have additional stalls, urinals, and family restrooms.
During construction the rest area and parking lot will be closed to the public.
The northbound rest area will remain open during the I-65 south rest area’s upgrade.
