The Baldwin Beach Express toll plaza roof is no more, thanks to Alabama Department of Transportation demolition teams working overnight. Video of the roof falling to the ground brought cheers from workers, as the demolition represents another step toward fast and free travel through the Orange Beach area and to Alabama’s beaches.
Demolition teams are now working on final removal of the toll plaza structure. Following this, construction crews will apply an asphalt overlay to the existing concrete section of the roadway. This overlay is a crucial step in ensuring a smooth and durable driving surface.
Once the asphalt overlay is completed, temporary striping will be placed to guide traffic safely. There will be a mandatory seven-day curing period for the asphalt to ensure it sets properly and achieves maximum durability.
After the curing period, which is expected to conclude by July 2 at 5 a.m., crews will begin the final phase of the project. This includes applying permanent striping and placing pavement markers. This final step will mark the completion of the toll plaza removal and the improvement of the Baldwin Beach Express Bridge.
