Expect a few more weeks of nighttime closures and detours

Contractors will install the final bridge girders for the westbound on-ramp at the I-565 Town Madison Interchange (Exit 10) during the next three to four weeks.

Nighttime roadway closures will be necessary for the safety of the public while the girders — massive steel beams to support the future bridge decks of the ramps — are hoisted into place by crane.

Weather permitting, all eastbound traffic on I-565 will be detoured nightly, beginning Tuesday, July 23, for about three nights. This will be followed by westbound closures Sunday nights through Thursday nights for the following two to three weeks. All closures will be limited to the hours of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Detour routes

The respective detours for eastbound and westbound traffic will be Wall Triana Highway from Exit 9 to Madison Boulevard to Exit 13 and Madison Boulevard from Exit 13 to Wall Triana Highway to Exit 9.

The work area is well-lit at night as workers secure girders spanning the I-565 roadways.
Contractors work to install bridge girders over I-565 during late night and early morning hours, when traffic is lowest.

Signal timings on Madison Boulevard have been modified to accommodate the detour, and Madison Police Department will be assisting with traffic control.
