The Alabama Department of Transportation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, August 26, to celebrate the upcoming opening of the new SR-5 bridge over US-78A (SR-69) in Jasper, which will officially open for traffic Tuesday, August 27.
Governor Kay Ivey, U.S. House Representative Robert Aderholt, State Senator Greg Reed, State House Representatives Tim Wadsworth and Matt Woods were in attendance to mark the occasion.
The project also features new traffic signals at the intersection of SR-5 and SR-195, along with the bridge ramps, that are expected to be installed by late September. Construction on the project began earlier this year is anticipated to finish ahead of schedule.
“It is vitally important that infrastructure in our area meets the needs of our community,” Reed said. “In Alabama, we view our transportation infrastructure as an economic development, workforce development, and community quality of life resource, and we have invested significant and necessary assets to ensure that needs are being met. This new bridge will serve families and businesses across our region, and I am thankful to Governor Ivey, ALDOT Director John Cooper, and all the men and women who made this project and its early completion a reality.”
Wright Brothers Construction Company was awarded the contract for the $8.8 million project that is expected to improve mobility, safety and economic development.
