The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), in collaboration with the City of Anniston, would like to make citizens aware of an ongoing, significant road work project on SR-21. This project, aimed at enhancing safety, access management, and resurfacing, will ultimately span from milepost 258 to milepost 265 in Calhoun County.
Starting immediately, ALDOT will implement lane closures on SR-21 northbound and/or southbound from approximately milepost 258 to milepost 265. These closures will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily to facilitate the necessary safety improvements, access management, and resurfacing activities.
The scope of work includes:
- Removing and modifying median crossovers
- Removing and constructing turn lanes
- Constructing U-turn bulbs
- Modifying business accesses
- Addressing drainage components
- Resurfacing SR-21
The project is expected to be completed by November 14, 2025.
Motorists are urged to consider using alternate routes, adjust their travel times, observe work zone speed limits, and heed all work zone signs. Safety is paramount, and caution is advised when traveling through the work area.
ALDOT appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists during this maintenance operation, which aims to improve the overall safety and efficiency of Alabama’s transportation network.
