Signal engineers in the Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) Southwest Region have made significant progress in the first phase of the Regional Traffic Operations Program (RTOP) expansion in Mobile, Alabama. The retiming of 66 traffic signals has been completed ahead of schedule, allowing ALDOT to advance the next phase earlier than planned.
What’s Next?
Starting at noon, Wednesday, August 28, signal engineers will begin retiming an additional 18 traffic signals that were initially slated for the second wave. The focus will be on key intersections across several major corridors in Mobile. Here’s a breakdown of the areas they will be working on throughout the rest of the week:

- Florida Street
- Durham Drive
- Pinehill Drive
- Glenwood Street
- Claiborne St Corridor (2 intersections):
- Church Street
- Canal Street/I-10 EB Ramp
- Washington St Corridor (3 intersections):
- Canal Street
- Texas Street
- Virginia Street
- Broad St Corridor (4 intersections):
- Baltimore Street
- Virginia Street
- Texas Street
- Aerospace Drive
- Stanton Rd Corridor (4 intersections):
- Pleasant Avenue
- Oakleigh Drive
- Fillingim Street
- Fillingim Street at Florida Street
- Congress St Corridor (1 intersection):
- N Lafayette Street
