Volunteers Alabama Coastal Cleanup
Oct 07

A huge thank you to all our incredible volunteers! Your hard work and dedication are making a real difference in keeping Alabama’s beaches and waterways beautiful. The 37th Annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup, held on September 21, 2024, was a remarkable success, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Each year, more than 2,000 volunteers like you come together to remove over 22,000 pounds of debris from Alabama’s coastal areas, and this year was no exception. Your efforts not only cleaned up our beaches, lakes, and streams but also played a critical role in pollution prevention, ensuring that future generations can enjoy our state’s natural beauty.

Pollution Prevention and Education: More Than Just a Cleanup

Alabama’s Coastal Cleanup isn’t just about collecting trash — it’s about educating the public and empowering communities to be part of the solution. Through the event’s focus on pollution prevention, volunteers like you become environmental stewards.

One of the unique aspects of the cleanup is the data collection effort. Many of you used the Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell App® to record specific types of marine debris collected. This data, compiled and tracked each year, is invaluable in helping to better understand the behaviors that contribute to marine pollution. The information gathered will be used to inform the public, businesses, industries, and government officials, leading to long-term solutions for reducing marine debris.

ALDOT’s Commitment to a Cleaner Coastline

ALDOT and the Alabama State Lands Division are proud sponsors of this important event. We are committed to supporting efforts that protect and preserve Alabama’s natural environment, and your contributions as volunteers make this mission possible.

We look forward to seeing you again at next year’s event, as we continue to “Get the Trash Out of the Splash!” Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier environment for all.

Thank you again for your dedication, and we’ll see you in 2025!
