The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin an access management project along US-231 in Troy from Elba Highway (SR-87) to Industrial Park Boulevard on Monday, Dec. 2, weather permitting.

The contractor began installing signs in preparation for the project on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The project, presented to the public in August 2023, will limit some turning movements by installing raised concrete islands in the median and U-Turn bulbs at multiple locations along the corridor.

Limiting left turn movements reduces the number of conflict points that more often lead to serious injuries and fatalities and increases safety.

Motorists should anticipate lane closures and reduced speed limits during the construction. ALDOT urges drivers to plan accordingly and remain alert to workers and equipment in the construction zone.

Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc., based in Dothan, secured the $2.7 million contract by submitting the lowest bid meeting project requirements. The project is expected to be complete in Summer 2025.
