Governor Ivey met with Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) crews on Dec. 5 to express her gratitude for their selfless assistance in disaster relief efforts in Florida following Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
“It was a privilege to meet the ALDOT workers who were deployed to Florida to aid in recovery efforts for Hurricane Milton and Helene,” said Gov. Ivey. “Alabama takes pride in being a good neighbor and I thank these good folks for stepping up when it was necessary. Their actions reflect the best of who we are as Alabamians.”
ALDOT officials then recognized the hard work and dedication of the three crews by presenting them with Volunteer Service Awards. These crews worked tirelessly to clear storm debris from roadways in the affected areas. Their efforts helped to facilitate the delivery of essential supplies and services to those in need.
ALDOT Deputy Director of Operations George Conner spoke with the group and offered his thanks. “I appreciate what you did. I appreciate the sacrifice you made with time away from your family and working as hard as you did,” said Conner. “You represented your State, the Department and Area and District that you’re from, and you represented it well.”
Going the extra mile
Three separate crews partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation to clear roadside debris from state routes. Eric Nails, Fayette District Transportation Management Technician, traveled to Florida with the second crew and was grateful for the opportunity to help.
“It was an honor and privilege to help the residents of Florida during a challenging time,” said Nails. “I consider it a blessing that ALDOT allowed us the opportunity to carry some of the weight. We stand ready and willing to help whenever needed.”
ALDOT remains committed to being a good neighbor and is proud to have played a role in the recovery process.
