ALDOT crews have been actively clearing snow and treating roadways for ice on priority routes throughout the Southeast Region. Motorists are still urged to avoid unnecessary travel. Falling temperatures increase the risk of black ice forming.

Autauga, Dallas, Elmore, and Montgomery counties– Crews have treated ice on interstate and major US routes. There is still potential for black ice. If travel is necessary, motorists should drive for potential ice by reducing speed and driving in the visibly cleared and most traveled lane.
Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Henry, Houston, Geneva, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Pike and Russell counties- Crews are plowing snow and treating for ice on prioritized routes. Motorists are still urged to remain off the roads in these counties.

Most roads remain icy throughout South Alabama. Motorists are urged to stay off the roads if possible. If travel is unavoidable, check ALGO Traffic for updated road conditions and drive for the conditions of the road. Reduce speed, avoid sudden braking, and drive in the lane that has been visibly cleared.
UPDATE: Jan. 21, 6:41 p.m.
ALDOT is urging motorists to use extreme caution tomorrow morning, Jan. 22, as temperatures are expected to remain below freezing. These conditions significantly increase the potential of black ice to form on bridges and roadways.
Pike County– US-231 at Walnut Creek is impassable.
Barbour County- Causeway Bridge is impassable.
UPDATE: Jan. 21, 3:35 p.m.
Covington County- All roads deemed impassable at this time. Crews will begin clearing roadways when conditions improve.

All counties in ALDOT’s Southeast Region are reporting ice on bridges and roadways. Motorists are urged to stay home. If travel is necessary, check ALGO Traffic for updated road conditions.

Dale County- Lane closed on US-231 in Ozark past SR-249. Ice forming on bridges and roadways. Motorists are urged to stay home.

Butler County- Interstate 65 South closed. Detour at Exit 130 onto US-31 and then reenter at Exit 114 in Georgiana.
