Mardi Gras 2025 is rolling into Mobile, and with it comes the usual mix of beads, moon pies, and—let’s be honest—traffic jams. The season kicks off Feb. 14 with the Conde Cavaliers, bringing thousands of revelers downtown for the first of many parades.
But don’t worry, Mobile’s traffic engineers aren’t just sitting back and catching throws. For the past three years, ALDOT and city engineers have run a one-of-a-kind traffic monitoring center to keep parade traffic moving as smoothly as a second-line dance.
From their command center, engineers keep an eye on traffic signals, making real-time adjustments to keep things moving. If roads like US-98 (Government Street) or the interstates start getting too crowded, they can switch up traffic plans on the fly.

The city of Mobile also uses this data for its Mardi Gras text service, providing real-time updates on weather, parking and other need-to-know info.
ALDOT will be monitoring traffic signals every parade day, so you can focus on catching beads instead of sitting in gridlock. For more information, visit www.cityofmobile.org/mardigras and text “MOBILEMARDIGRAS” to 91896 for updates.
