The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is highlighting its regional engineers during National Engineers Week, which is about celebrating today’s achievements and paving the way for a brighter and more diverse future in engineering.
North Region Engineer Curtis Vincent joined ALDOT in 1988. Vincent served as a project engineer, design engineer, assistant division engineer in charge of preconstruction, division engineer, and state construction engineer before becoming region engineer in 2016. His 37 years of experience, including design, construction and maintenance, serves him well in leading the Huntsville-based region, which oversees operations in 13 counties.
Born and raised in Trussville, Vincent graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 1981. He went on to graduate from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1985.
He and his wife, Lynda, have been married 39 years. They have two daughters, Eryn and Edyn, and one granddaughter, Alyce Shifflett.
The North Region must balance the needs of the burgeoning Huntsville metropolitan area with needs of smaller cities and rural areas. Nearly the entire region is affected in one way or another by crossings of the Tennessee River.
Notable projects include:
- I-565 construction – both the spur’s original construction and ongoing projects to widen and improve the corridor
- Memorial Parkway overpasses
- US-231 emergency slide repair
- Tennessee River bridge replacements at Whitesburg, Guntersville, and Scottsboro, and bridge rehabilitations at Stevenson and on I-65
