Drive Safe Alabama is a lead broadcast sponsor of the Alabama High School Athletic Association State Basketball Championships this week in Birmingham.
The State Basketball Championships begin on Monday, Feb. 24 at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center – Legacy Arena with 42 semifinals and finals games spread across six days.
Through the AHSAA partnership with Drive Safe Alabama, thousands of fans statewide will hear and see safe driving messages. The partnership is a key component of the Alabama Department of Transportation traffic safety public campaign.
“Teens are over represented in vehicle crashes,” said Drive Safe Alabama coordinator Allison Green. “While only 6 percent of licensed drivers in Alabama are teenagers, teens caused 13 percent of the traffic crashes in Alabama in 2023. Super 7 radio and TV audiences are just the people we need to reach in our work to reduce traffic crashes and fatalities by encouraging safe driving behaviors.”
Alabama Public Television is the television broadcaster for the State Basketball Championships. Drive Safe Alabama PSAs about the state’s hands-free driving law and seat belt safety will air on these APT broadcasts.
The AHSAA Radio Network will carry the radio broadcast of the State Basketball Championships and Drive Safe Alabama messages. Throughout the basketball season, the AHSAA Radio Network has featured Drive Safe Alabama messaging in its weekly sports programming. As the title sponsor of the On the Road segment, Drive Safe Alabama reached Alabama sports fans across the state.
Drive Safe Alabama also sponsors an Athlete of the Week, which highlights outstanding student athletes.
