The Alabama Department of Transportation will soon begin work on a safety improvement project for the US-280 through Alexander City.
The project limits extend from the intersection of US – 280 at SR 22 to the intersection of US – 280 at Airport Road. The project will feature the construction of additional turn lanes, offset turn lanes, modified median crossovers and signal improvements. These modifications are needed for improved safety and traffic operations along US – 280.
Weather permitting, the work to make these improvements will begin Monday, March 10th. Intermittent temporary lane and shoulder closures will occur during construction. This work will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete. A US – 280 resurfacing project through this corridor is scheduled for Summer 2025.
Motorists should follow the in-place construction signs and detour route. Also, motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
ALDOT’s mission is to provide a safe, efficient, environmentally sound transportation network across Alabama. For further information, visit www.dot.state.al.us.
