SCAM ALERT: Beware of scam texts claiming to be ALDOT

Mar 24

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is aware of an ongoing scam that is being relayed over text messages. Anything you receive claiming to be a toll collection effort from ALDOT is a scam.

The text message, which was not sent by ALDOT, may claim you are subject to legal action if you do not pay outstanding toll fees.

If you receive a text claiming to be from ALDOT and saying you owe a toll, it is a scam.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reports that clicking a link in a scam text can lead to a phishing attack, in which the scammer tries to take your personal information, credit card information, or more. If you received one of these texts:

  • Don’t click on any links or respond to the text.
  • Report the unwanted text using your phone’s “report junk” option or forward it to 7726 (SPAM).

You can help friends and family by warning them about this ongoing scam.
