As spring approaches, communities across Alabama are preparing to take part in the annual “Don’t Drop It On Alabama” Spring Cleanup. Organized by Alabama PALS, the 2025 Spring Cleanup will bring together volunteers from all over the state to tackle litter along roadsides, waterways and public spaces.
Each year, the cleanup serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining Alabama’s natural beauty. Thousands of volunteers, including civic groups, businesses and schools, dedicate time and effort to remove litter from communities in each of the 67 counties in the state. As a result, countless areas throughout the state have become cleaner.
What is Alabama PALS?
Alabama PALS, or People Against a Littered State, is a nonprofit organization committed to litter prevention and environmental stewardship.
Through programs like the Spring Cleanup, Adopt-A-Mile and Coastal Cleanup, PALS encourages individuals and organizations to take responsibility for keeping Alabama clean. These initiatives improve the environment as well as help raise awareness about the impact of litter on Alabama.
ALDOT’s Support for a Cleaner Alabama
To support PALS in its mission, ALDOT assists in promoting litter awareness coupled with cleanup efforts across the state. ALDOT helps spread the message of the Spring Cleanup and encourages participation.
In 2024, more than $9.4 million was allocated for litter removal statewide. Additionally, about 675 anti-litter signs have been installed along Alabama’s roadways to remind motorists to Keep Alabama Beautiful.
