As part of her commitment to Rebuild Alabama, Gov. Kay Ivey joined Demopolis Mayor Woody Collins, local leaders and officials from the Alabama Department of Transportation to highlight a $2 million transportation project during a visit to Rooster Hall on Friday.

The project in Demopolis, funded through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II) and the Rebuild Alabama Act, will focus on access management improvements along U.S. Highway 80 from Maria Avenue to Lake Lane.

“Since signing the Rebuild Alabama Act into law, we’ve tackled more than 400 major road and bridge projects in all 67 counties,” Ivey said. “What’s happening here today in Demopolis is a great example of how Rebuild Alabama was always meant to work: state support, local leadership and a commitment to making sure every community – large or small – gets its share of progress. The story is the same all across our state: good Alabama roads mean good Alabama jobs, safer Alabama families and a stronger Alabama economy.”

Underscoring a statewide investment, the governor’s visit highlights an announcement of more than $40 million in state transportation funding for cities and counties across Alabama

ATRIP-II program details

  • Created in 2019 by the Rebuild Alabama Act
  • Funded by a portion of the new state gas tax revenue
  • Supports local interest projects on the state highway system
  • The program does not require a local match, though sponsors may contribute additional funds.

To date, ATRIP-II has awarded more than $200 million in state funds to improve infrastructure statewide
