Bridge demolition on SR-243 at Cedar Creek begins

Demolition of the bridge on SR-243 at Cedar Creek in Franklin County
Jul 21

Demolition of the bridge on SR-243 at Cedar Creek in Franklin County began today.

Removal of the 60-year-old bridge southeast of Russellville will make way for a replacement to be constructed by contractor Miller and Miller.

ALDOT estimates the $2.8 million project will take about a year.

The road will remain closed to traffic until the new bridge, a wider and safer structure built to modern standards, is substantially complete.

ALDOT reminds motorists to plan alternate routes and additional travel time. Commercial traffic must use the posted official detour, which is US-43 from Russellville to SR-13 at Spruce Pine to SR-195 in Haleyville for southbound traffic, and vice versa for northbound traffic.
