Expect single-lane nighttime closures next week on I-65 at Parker Road in Hartselle and Upper River Road in Priceville for bridge work and removal of traffic control.

Rogers Group plans to close the outside northbound lane at Parker Road about 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, for minor repairs to two bridge girders. The lane will reopen about 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18.

During the same timeframe on subsequent nights, the contractor will remove the concrete barriers protecting the work areas in the shoulders and medians at both locations.

ALDOT advises motorists to expect delays. For real-time traffic information, download the ALGO Traffic app or visit algotraffic.com.

On Parker Road, the contractor will level the roadway approaching the bridge at each end to match the bridge surface.

Bridge raising

Using jacks to lift the bridge girders and insert metal shims, workers raised the bridges on Parker Road and Upper River Road 13 inches to provide 17 feet of clearance from the interstate. The shims were then encased in concrete, becoming a permanent part of the structures.

Parker Road in the vicinity of the bridge will remain closed to traffic for a few more weeks while the contractor levels the roadway approaching the bridge.

Upper River Road over I-65 reopened earlier this week.

A $16.5 million project to resurface more than 23 miles of I-65 in Morgan County and parts Cullman and Limestone counties included both bridge raisings.

Paving crews have so far milled and resurfaced most of the I-65 mainline from Lacon to SR-36 in Hartselle. They are now paving interchanges.
