An Alabama Department of Transportation project to modify the intersection of US-280 and US-80 in Phenix City begins Monday, Sept. 15.
The project will include:
- Widening and extending the southbound left turn lane onto US-280
- Widening the westbound left turn lane onto US-80
- Widening the eastbound US-80 ramp
- Widening the southbound turn lane on US-280 onto the US-80 eastbound ramp
- Installing new overhead signs
- Updating traffic signals to accommodate the new traffic patterns
The project will have intermittent lane closures so drivers should plan accordingly for possible delays.
ALDOT urges drivers to drive the posted speed limit and be mindful of people and equipment in the work zone.
The $2 million project was awarded to McElhenney Construction Co., LLC, out of Mobile, Ala., who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2026.
