Engineers from the Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) Southwest Region recently met with members of the Mobile Area Association of Realtors to share updates on major infrastructure projects shaping growth in Mobile County and along the Gulf Coast.
The presentation gave real estate professionals insight into road and bridge projects that are improving travel across the region.
Realtors can use this information to help clients better understand how these projects will enhance accessibility, safety, and property value.
Mobile County continues to experience steady growth, with an estimated population of more than 412,000 residents in 2024.
The Mobile Chamber of Commerce reports more than $422 million in capital investment and nearly 1,400 new jobs created this year, highlighting the area’s strong economy and appeal to new residents and businesses.

ALDOT engineers shared updates on all major projects. Engineers gave updates on resurfacing efforts, interstate widening, bridge replacements and working with local municipalities to further roadway safety and infrastructure projects.
Engineers also provided information on the Waterway Bridge Project in Gulf Shores. The project will improve traffic flow and provide an additional route to and from the beaches.
It will benefit both current residents, future homebuyers and visitors.

“These projects are key to meeting the needs of our growing communities,” said James Gordon, spokesperson for ALDOT’s Southwest Region. “As more people choose to live and work in Mobile and Baldwin counties, ALDOT is committed to building infrastructure that supports safe and efficient travel for everyone.”
Local realtors said they appreciated the opportunity to learn about these improvements, which will help them guide homebuyers seeking property in high-growth areas like West Mobile, Saraland, Spanish Fort, and Gulf Shores.
