The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will host a come-and-go style public involvement meeting at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa to discuss a potential intersection improvement and access management project on SR-69 from Mimosa Park Road to the I-20/59 interchange.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can view exhibits and speak with ALDOT representatives regarding the proposed project.
The project includes widening SR-69 to add one northbound and one southbound lane from Skyland Boulevard through the I-20/59 interchange. Access management and other targeted improvements are also proposed on Skyland Boulevard from SR-69 to Old Greensboro Road to enhance both mobility and safety.
The proposed design is an at-grade solution and does not require the construction of a bridge. This approach was selected because it effectively addresses current traffic demands while being the most practical and cost-efficient option. This does not limit ALDOT’s ability to make additional upgrades in the future. Should funding become available and traffic needs change, the corridor will remain capable of accommodating more extensive upgrades.
Project maps and comment forms are also available online for those unable to attend.
Hillcrest High School is located at 300 Patriot Parkway, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
