The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) plans to replace the US-278 bridge over Bogue Creek in Sulligent to improve mobility and safety.

The existing bridge has reached the end of its service life and will be replaced with a modern structure designed to better serve current and future traffic needs.

The project is expected to begin Monday, Jan. 5, and will continue until spring 2027. The contractor will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction throughout the project. Therefore, no off-site detour will be required.

However, County Road 23 (Buck Jackson Road) will be closed at the US-278 intersection. Drivers will need to seek alternate routes during the project.

Carcel & G Construction was awarded the project at $5.67 million.

Drivers should expect possible delays and are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits. For real-time traffic updates and more, download the ALGOTraffic app or visit ALGOTraffic.com.
